Simply Fried Tofu
Verry simple to make and so delicious, a family favorite!
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
Vegetable oil
1 block of extra firm tofu
Soy sauce
Black pepper
Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning or an herbal seasoning like Mrs. Dash
Nutritional yeast
Preparation:
- Pat dry a block of tofu to remove excess water. Slice the block of tofu into ½” thick slices.
- Add the oil to a frying pan and heat on medium high. When the oil is hot add the tofu slices to the pan.
- Let the tofu brown for approximately 5 minutes then add a splash of soy sauce to each piece of tofu and sprinkle spices to taste.
- Flip the tofu to brown the other side adding another splash of soy sauce and spices and continue to fry. The tofu can be fried until the sides are golden brown and the center is still soft or fried till darkly browned and tofu is crisp on the outside.
Serving suggestions:
- Serve tofu on a biscuit or English muffin with a slice of cheese as a breakfast sandwich.
- Put in between two slices of bread and add your favorite sandwich fillings.
- Cut into thin slices and serve on a tortilla with avocado and salsa.
- Serve as a cutlet along side some brown rice or mashed potatoes and vegetables.
- Flavor with Italian seasonings and serve on pasta topped with marinara sauce.
- Cut up the cold leftovers and eat on top of a salad.
